STRIDING TOWARDS THE ESTUARY, WHERE IT ALL BEGINS
A KEEN EYE FOR THE RIVER’S UNSPOILT NATURE
Close to the estuary, from the nets, time almost seems to stand still. This area reconnects you with the world. An interlude for the senses, where you should open your eyes to take in the landscape’s movements and understand its origins. Feel the air on your skin, soak up the weather conditions, experience the surrounding area. Then slowly work your way back towards Rauzan-Ségla, climbing the gravel hilltops from the river. Every nuance captures your attention and is imbued with the centuries.
From the left bank, you have to navigate the river to reach Canon. Crossing the estuary takes you back in time. A waterworld exploration of Bordeaux the port, Bordeaux the city, Bordeaux the wines and their trade, then the region's estates, river and terroirs... A traditional boat is how to truly experience this river – impetuous, imposing, alone amid the current with your eye on the uninhabited, unspoilt nature. Rauzan-Ségla, a secret cocoon. At the heart of the Médoc countryside, the estate marks the slow passage of time. As unchanging as the 1855 classification, the chateau houses many treasures. It offers the warmth of home. Fabric, silk, works of art and history, marquetry, large cabinets, vases and porcelain, period furniture, herbariums and paintings... Pieces by exceptional artisans feature within these modest walls.
Canon, a place of happiness. A stone’s throw from the tourist village of Saint-Emilion, a haven of joy, to inspire reunions and shared moments. Colours, patterns and styles mingle freely, opening up to nature. Precious wood, windows based with light, and a long corridor, art books, Murano glass and travel-inspired tableware. All gleaming with vibrant eclecticism.

The smell of lukewarm coffee awaiting at the centre of the small silver plate, placed on an old marquetry table. The aroma of warm shortbread emerging from the kitchen. Jocelyne is preparing her delicious cakes. The softness of rainy days and the pleasure of summer afternoons hangs in the air. Rauzan-Ségla makes you feel at home.
In the small garden, beneath the clean sunshine, the verbena prepared by Patricia awaits on the table. It is a thirst-quenching bath of joyful freshness. The leaves were picked by hand then lovingly dried in the kitchen, next to the gleaming limoncello. Salt infused with grape pomace stands proudly on the counter. Château Canon seems to reverberate with tangy touches.

Like a painting masterpiece slowly gaining a patina, we accompany it on its journey through time. It is something that needs to be listened to sat by the fire. Paying attention to its aeration, structure, development, expression, and the secret tales it has to tell... Rauzan-Ségla's wines gain in complexity with every passing hour.
The Canon wine connection is an experience reserved for invited guests. Standing beneath the lounge and small garden, the cellar is accessed via the chateau or winery. You descend beneath the limestone arches to select a wine. Thousands of legendary bottles stand in line. A journey through time, from now back to 1869. The wines dwell in a unique atmosphere, suspended in time. Carefully wipe the dust from these ancient labels, and bring the precious nectar into the light of day.
